Project Song
Someone over at National Public Radio must be a fan of the locally created Record of the Week Club. Project Song is a new segment developed by NPR in the U.S. that hopes to take an insider’ s look at the songwriting process. The public broadcaster is asking artists to create a new song in two days based on a word and a photo collage from artist Tom Chambers. Death Cab for Cutie’s Chris Walla was the first artist to participate, and chose to work with J. Robbins of Jawbox and Burning Airlines to create Mercury, a song about the effects of global warming. Before setting foot in the studio, neither artist had met. Video and audio of the two-day session is available on demand. It’s really too bad Mercury isn’t available as a stand-alone download.

Awesome YouTube Comments
Sometimes the best part of socially driven sites such as YouTube, Yahoo Answers, Vimeo or Texts from Last Night is the endless stream of comments from keyboard cowboys that springs up after something is posted. While you could waste tons of time scouring the web looking for comments worth emailing to your buddies, why not just visit this blog and let someone do the hard work for you?

Quick Hits

MP3 of the Week: Karen O & The Kids - All is Love (DJ Co-op Remix)
It was only a matter of time before unofficial remixes from the soundtrack to Spike Jonze’s Where the Wild Things Are hit the web. Keeping it close to home, DJ Co-op tackles Karen O & The Kids’ All is Love for Marathonofdope.com. While you’re at the newly redesigned site, make sure to grab Pip Skid’s brilliant I Can’t Sleep. Everything on the fledgling digital label is available in a pay-what-you-think-it’s-worth model.

Video of the Week: Temple of the Dog - Hunger Strike (Live at the Gibson Amphitheater)
Chris Cornell may have jumped the shark with his recent club-friendly album, but that doesn’t mean he has lost all of his edge. The former Soundgarden frontman joined Pearl Jam at a recent gig in L.A. to perform Temple of the Dog’s Hunger Strike. This is the first time they have performed as the Andrew Wood/Mother Love Bone tribute band in a number of years.
