Ayoudo
Hoping to connect people in a community around shared needs, Ayoudo is a neighbourhood app/website that was launched in Vancouver in February and recently became available to Winnipeggers. (It’s now available in 50 cities in all 10 provinces.) Michael Tippett, CEO of Ayoudo, says, “people use the application to get help in the garden, tune up their home office and take care of life’s little emergencies. But the application is also playing a critical role in getting help to people in a time of crisis.” This crowdsourcing-meets-classifieds site offers a unique way to approach tasks such as finding someone to transfer data to your new computer, repairing a crack in your tub or getting that hand rail installed on your porch. “There are lots of errand-running services that are popping up, but Ayoudo is different,” says Kul Wadhwa, head of mobile for Wikipedia. “Ayoudo is about connecting anyone with anyone for commercial and non-commercial purposes. It’s much bigger than a marketplace.”

Is It Too Old?
Not too long ago, chain emails, bad jokes and hoaxes were what you would get from people who were out of touch with what was happening on the web. Now sharing on the web has become pervasive — but nobody wants to feel like they’re late to the party by sending out an old meme, weird website or video from YouTube. Is It Too Old? lets you check how fresh that link you are going to post to your Twitter followers, post on Facebook or send out to your friends really is. That way you can tell if you’re ahead of the wave or jumping on the bandwagon — or if the link you have is way past its expiry date.

Fuck Yeah Hotel Hallways
There’s a Tumblr for everything these days. Fuck Yeah Hotel Hallways is “tribute to the artistry of hotel carpet patterns.”

MP3 of the Week: Chelsea Light Moving – Burroughs

Chelsea Light Moving is Thurston Moore’s (Sonic Youth) new project. Burroughs is a noisy guitar workout that has Moore, guitarist Keith Wood, bassist Samara Lubelski and drummer John Moloney plowing through the fuzzy side of the ’90s and coming out in 2012. Check the Matador blog for another track set to be released over the next couple weeks.

Video of the Week: Diamond Rings – I’m Just Me
If this first single is any indication, Diamond Rings is on his way to avoiding the dreaded sophomore jinx. More propulsive than anything on his debut album, I’m Just Me combines John O’Regan’s distinct vocals, glammed-up synths, big fluorescent tones and utilitarian ’80s drums for a neon dance party you can’t get enough of.
