Bad Apartment Photos
With Winnipeg’s vacancy rate hovering so low that it’s becoming increasing difficult to find a decent place, you can probably relate to this web project that collects pictures of awful three-bedroom or larger apartments renting for $1,000 or less on Craigslist.

Morrisey with Cats
Combining Morrisey with one of the most popular animals on the Internet is such a surefire hit, it’s really surprising someone hasn’t thought of it sooner. Why have we been deprived of the Moz and cats for so long?

Video of the Week: A Week to Kill
Comedian Hannibal Buress (who also plays the homeless guy on 30 Rock and wrote for Saturday Night Live) may have a documentary film crew following him as he prepares for his first TV special for Comedy Central, but you get the sense it doesn’t really matter. He may not be the most comfortable guy in front of the camera but that’s part of his charm. His jokes are funny but not in a way that hits you over the head. His purposeful delivery and laid-back-yet-careful execution is what has him on the road endlessly, playing everywhere from comedy joints to less conventional venues such as the Park Theatre in Winnipeg. It’s also what got him his first TV special. Directed by Ryan Ferguson, A Week to Kill is an insider’s look at Buress as he prepares for his next big challenge.

MP3 of the Week: Ghosts on Tape – As You Like It Podcast #14
With an otherworldly sound that emphasizes the dark, trippy aspects of techno, the jacking groove of house and bass music’s low-end theory, San Francisco post-rave DJ/producer Ghosts on Tape delivered one of the most talked-about performances at the recent Manitoba Electronic Music Exhibition at Old Market Square. A native of St. Louis, his Midwest rave roots and understanding of ’90s house and techno gets filtered into a raw, warped blend of strobe-light synths, poignant pianos, psychedelic samples, low-grade drum machines, weird acid freakouts, future bass and tracky loops that is both classic and forward thinking. Let’s hope someone brings him back to Winnipeg really soon. In the meantime, this new mix for the As You Like It podcast will have to do.
