10 Alternatives to Mininova
Around for the past four years, Mininova was one of the largest BitTorrent resources on the web. Formed out of the ashes of Suprnova.org, which went offline in 2004 after encountering legal problems, Mininova quickly established itself as one of the go-to spots for downloading music, TV shows, movies and games. While the fact that Mininova did not have its own tracker (it just pointed to others on the web) was able to buy it some time, it’s not surprising that the site has since been forced to change how it operates. The site had to remove all torrents that were connected to proprietary material - and, because more than 95% of the torrents on the site fit into that category, Mininova has become totally useless as a resource for digital media. The site is going to attempt to continue offering legal torrents - but we all know how that business model worked out for Napster. Considering there were 175,820,430 visits and nearly one billion page views last month on Mininova, there are going to be a lot of torrrent lovers looking for a new home. So, if you’re looking to download that movie you want to see, that album you want to hear, that game you want to play or that TV show you missed, Lifehacker.com offers up 10 Alternatives to Mininova. It will be interesting to see how long heavyweights such as The Pirate Bay, BTJunkie and Torrentzap can keep fighting.
