MyWinnipeg.com - December 18/08
The last weekend before Christmas is always busy with local bands trying to capitalize on the fact that people are probably taking time off work and all their friends are back for the holidays. This year is no different, except for the fact there are three high profile out-of-town DJs who are also performing over the next few days.
Thursday

Cosmo Baker
w/ Hunnicutt and Co-op
Hi-Fi Club
108 Osborne, 2nd Floor
$5 at the door.
1/3 of New York party-rocking crew, The Rub, Cosmo Baker rolls into town to play an intimate set at Co-op and Hunnicutt’s weekly dance party, Day Old Donuts. Known for his electric performances that touch on everything from old school funk to forward thinking hip hop, Baker won’t disappoint.
Friday
Hide Your Daughters
w/ Velodrom and Hot Live Guys
Royal Albert
48 Albert Street
$5 at the door.
Ultra heavy noise-rockers Hide Your Daughters haven’t played a show in a long time, so expect them to come out swinging.
Saturday
The Waking Eyes
w/ DJ Co-op and Mike B.
The Pyramid
176 Fort Street
$10 @ Ticketmaster, Into the Music, Kustom Kulture.
Can’t get enough of The Walking Eyes new album, Holding On to Whatever It Is? After a busy tour out East, which saw the band interviewed by MTV and doing more press than they probably were comfortable with, they are back some to play cuts from their recently released album to a hometown crowd. The band will also perform an all ages gig in Steinbach on Saturday.
Burnthe8track
w/ Hospital and Flesh Auger.
The Zoo
160 Osborne Street
One of Winnipeg’s hardest working bands, Burnthe8track, play their first local gig since opening up for punk legends, Bad Religion, on their recent tour. Not only do these guys, live and breath their music, they are one of the best live bands you’ll see.
Tuesday
Steve Aoki
w/ The Hosers and Paul Devro.
Hi-Fi Club
108 Osborne, 2nd Floor
$15 in advance at Hi-Fi and Noir. $20 at the door
Hipster DJ/designer/producer/label owner/pseudo celebrity Steve Aoki makes his third trip to Winnipeg in 2008, but the late addition of Mad Decent’ globe-trotting DJ, Paul Devro, to the lineup is what makes this show really appealing.
Other concerts checking out: AC/DC Tribute (Thursday - Times Change(d)), Chords of Canada (Friday - Park Theatre) and Tommy Sunshine (Saturday - Event Exchange Centre).
