One Millions Acts of Green
Outside of The Dragon’s Den, The Hour and a handful of other programs, the CBC doesn’t have much to offer these days. The public broadcaster may have lost the CFL, the Olympics and the confidence of many Canadians, but you have to give CBC credit for its two-month-old One Millions Acts of Green campaign. It isn’t surprising that the network’s best bet, The Hour’s George Stroumboulopoulos, is front and centre trying to encourage Canadians to look at how they can positively affect the environment. Although Stroumbo’s trip to the big leagues was cut short when his ABC-funded American Idol-type show, The One: Making a Music Star, was pulled after only two weeks, the former MuchMusic host has created a hip, thought-provoking talk show and has quietly become one of the few things worth watching on the CBC. Part of Stroumbo’s new plan is to try to get Canadians to get involved. Whether it’s changing what type of light bulbs you use to bigger projects such as insulating your attic, One Millions Acts of Green is trying to show people that every change they make, no matter how big or small, has a positive impact. Register your green acts and see what can happen when people start making simple lifestyle changes to help the environment.
People Who Deserve It
If you are an avid reader of Vice Magazine, Stuff White People Like and Hot Chicks with Douchebags, you are going to love People Who Deserve It. Lambasting everyone from the Cubicle Phone Screamer to the Evasive Bartender to the Self-Important Bluetooth Guy, People Who Deserve It isn’t afraid to hit below the belt. “Honestly, unless you’re police dispatch or air traffic control, there is no way you’re getting enough calls to justify sporting that glorified techno-earring 24/7. So do us all a favour, take that ‘thing’ out of your ear and rejoin regular society. Otherwise it’s open season, and our fist-to-face connection is one call that always goes through. Can you hear us now?”
