Friday

Z-Trip
w/ Co-op, Hunnicutt and DJ L. Lon
The Republic
291 Bannatyne Ave
$10 at The Urban Bakery and The Urban Boutique

One of the most influential turntablists in the business, Arizona’s DJ Z-Trip will make his second appearance in Winnipeg this Friday at Republic. Bridging the gap between rock, hip hop, punk, house, funk and everything in between, few DJs can keep up with his quick-handed mixes. Considered to be one of the forerunners to the mashup movement, Z-Trip’s genre-bending performance last July touched on everything from old school Public Enemy to Rage Against the Machine to 80s classics like Tears for Fears to custom remixes he cooked up in his home studio. Get there early as this show will sell out. Locals Co-op, Hunnicutt and DJ L. Lon open up the show.

Kick FM’s The Beat! close the night out with their unique blend of Brit pop, rock and soul.

Saturday

Touring in support of their recently released album, Begone Dull Care (a reference to a short film by Norman McLaren), Hamilton’s electronic duo Junior Boys’ appearance at The Pyramid is one of the most anticipated shows of the year. With three critically acclaimed albums under their belt and a propulsive live show that builds on the code- crunching pulse of their studio work, this is one event you are not going to want to miss. Talented U.K. multi-instrumentalist Max Tundra gets things started.

Sunday

Nickelback

Fresh off winning three Junos in Vancouver last weekend, Canadian radio gods Nickelback bring their loud, pyrotechnic filled rock show to The Phone Booth this Sunday in support of their album, Dark Horse. While they may not be a favorite of the critics, there is no denying they are one of the most popular bands in North America right now.
