’80s Wrestlers - Where Are They Now?
It’s hard to believe, but this year WrestleMania will celebrate its 25th anniversary. One of the biggest pay-per-view events of the year (over one million orders), the Super Bowl of wrestling has come a long way since Andre the Giant, Rowdy Roddy Piper and Hulk Hogan ruled the ring. Asylum.com takes a look at what happened to some of the superstars of ’80s wrestling including Jimmy (Superfly) Snuka, The Iron Sheik, Tito Santana, Randy (Macho Man) Savage, Bret (Hit Man) Hart and Ricky (The Dragon) Steamboat.
Chef Sandwich
Along with chef Ferran AdriĆ ’s El Builli in Spain, Heston Blumenthal’s The Fat Duck in England has been at the centre of recent experimentation with molecular gastronomy in the kitchen. Both restaurants have received perfect three-star ratings in the prestigious Michelin Guide and both, at various times, have been called the best restaurant in the world. Have you ever wondered what goes on behind the scenes to create dishes such as pommery grain mustard ice cream with red cabbage gazpacho, snail porridge or venison and frankincense tea? Chef Sandwich takes you into the cramped back rooms of Fat Duck to expose the inner workings of the kitchen and reveal just what it takes to turn out Blumenthal’s glamorous, ultra-fine dining night in and night out. “I prised and chipped away - it was like trying to engrave a gravestone with a lolly stick,” writes the chef-in-training during his month-long placement at the restaurant. “After an hour, I had stab wounds in my left palm where the blade had sprung free. On my right, there were three ugly blisters, exposing large circles of red flesh. Sea water and shell shrapnel were splattered over my board, and I had to wrap my hands in blue tissue paper to cushion the wounds. At least sea water was good for cuts, I thought. But I must have looked a complete twat standing there with my hands bound up like a blue mummy.”
