The Royal Albert Arms
48 Albert Street
$14 at Ticketworkshop.com
Old School vets U.K. Subs roll into town to perform alongside Juno nominated left-field punks F***ed Up in what will surely be a loud, gritty and in-your-face performance at the legendary Royal Albert. Is there a better venue to see these two power-house punk rock acts? Montreal’s Captain Finger and Winnipeg’s Blackout Brigade round out the bill.
Friday
Sebastien Grainger
w/ Flash Lightning and The Playing Cards
The Pyramid
176 Fort Street
$10 at Into the Music and Kustom Kulture
All Ages
While his former partner in DFA 1979 has gone on to a successful career as an electro-house producer in MSTRKRFT, Sebastien Grainger has gone in the opposite direction musically with his first solo album. While MSTRKRFT may channel some of the raunchy grit that made DFA so exciting, Grainger is showing off his chops as a singer/songwriter with his new band. While some fans may be disappointed, his project should be judged on its own merits. This is an all-ages show.
Sunday
NoMeansNo
w/ Potty Umbrella and Bison BC
The Park Theatre
698 Osborne Street
$17.50 at the door or Ticketworkshop.com
All Ages
Part of the first wave of Canada punk rock, Vancouver’s NoMeansNo have carved out their own space as one of the most influential bands of the last three decades. While they may have never enjoyed huge commercial success, you would be hard pressed to find a band with more passion, intensity and integrity. Part of the fabric of the Canadian punk scene, this is their first local performance in a number of years. While the show on Monday sold out instantly, there are still some tickets left for their all ages gig at The Park Theatre on Sunday. They’ll be back at The Albert on April 28th as their puck-rock alter-egos, The Hanson Brothers.
